About Toto
Toto was founded in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also well-known studio players working with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The name comes from the Latin word that means "all encompassing," the group was intent on exploring all styles of music.
In 1981, Toto's third album Turn Back was a flop However, they resurface with their fourth release Isolation which contains two hits, including the title track and Roseanna. The album and the tour made them a household brand across the globe.
After a gap of few years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in the year 1986. It marks a step away from the ballads of previous albums and includes some heavy rock. The album was their first to go platinum in North America.
In the course of recording the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and is financially in trouble. They decide to record a new album and change their name to a different producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, replaces Fergie Frederiksen as lead singer. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman and provides the band with a much-needed boost.
The band releases Mindfields in 1999 and embarks on a major tour across the globe. After several weeks in Europe, the band heads to Japan for sold-out shows.
